Royal Automobile Club in London

Two days ago I was invited to have dinner at the RAC. It was a very interesting and different experience. In 1897, Frederick Richard Simms and Charles Harrington Moore translated the constitution of the Automobile Club de France (ACF) into English, modifying it where appropriate, to create the basis for the Automobile Club of Great Britain which was formally inaugurated on 8th December 1897, one day before of my birthdate. King Edward VII's interest in motoring led to the command “that the Automobile Club of Great Britain and Ireland should henceforth be known as The Royal Automobile Club”. The new Clubhouse took three years to complete, the architects responsible for the work were Messrs. Mewes and Davis, who numbered the Ritz amongst their achievements. The Clubhouse was eventually opened in March 1911. This is the firt history of the club. But it is amazing to see the big golden walls, and the high ceilings that represent one society. British Clubs are places of encouters and meetings, and exchanges of ideas. It was still there ... the ladies room where they used to spend their hours playing and drinking tea while their husbands stayed in the smoking room or finnishing their business meetings. It represents the face of one society. Now the Ladies room was already full of men reading the newspapers. The swiming pool, the restaurants ...nice areas. its a classy place to a trip in the traditional english society and a dive into History.

Take a Look
